Water Turtles
Mavrobara Lake is in the middle of the Kassandra forest, close to Polychrono. It is a very beautiful place with a lot of biological value.
The lake is made up of fresh water and covers 2,200 m2. It is 300 meters above sea level.
Landslides in the ground formed the lake.
Its calm water is home to two rare kinds of water turtles from the family Emydidae: emys orbicularis and Mauremys caspica.
Within the past few years, there have been more of each of these species, which is good news for their future.
