Lighthouse of Possidi
At the end of Possidi beach, there is an old lighthouse that has been painted white.
The lighthouse was built in 1864. When it was first built, it was pretty close to the water, but now the water is farther away. The sand stretch was made later when silt started to build up. This lighthouse in the colonial style is still in use, and there is a small flower yard around it that makes it look even better.
Mavrobara lake
Mavrobara Lake is in the middle of the Kassandra forest, close to Polychrono. It is a very beautiful place with a lot of biological value.
The lake is made up of fresh water and covers 2,200 m2. It is 300 meters above sea level.
Mount Athos
Mount Athos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a peninsula in northern Greece that has been a spiritual center for Orthodox Christianity for over a thousand years. The “Holy Mountain,” as it is known, is home to 20 active monasteries and numerous other monastic communities.
Mount Athos is a unique place, as it is exclusively for men. Women and children are not allowed to enter the peninsula. This tradition dates back to the 10th century and is rooted in the desire to create a space of pure devotion and contemplation.
Panagia Faneromeni
The Panagia Faneromeni chapel is a small but beautiful chapel located 2 kilometers from Nea Skioni in Kassandra, Halkidiki. The chapel was built in the 16th century and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
The main attraction of the chapel is the icon of the Madonna, which is painted on a base of a statue. According to legend, the icon arrived in Halkidiki from Thessaly by sea. The icon is said to be miraculous, and many people visit the chapel to pray and seek blessings.
Sanctuary of Zeus Ammon
One of Halkidiki’s most well-known temples is the Sanctuary of Zeus Ammon.
The Dionysus Sanctuary was built by Euboean, who lived in Afitis, in the second half of the eighth century B.C. The Nymphs and the god Dionysus were honoured in the cave under the rock on the southwest side of the site.
On a small hill in the northern part of the site, the Egyptian god Zeus Ammon built a shrine.
